The immigration medical examination procedure
The immigration medical examination (IME) at Dr. AUBERT’s office is conducted as follows:
- First, you will be required to sign a document stating that you are consenting to our collecting and use of your personal information for the purpose of the exam and the use of e-medical software
- Since you have received nothing from IRCC, I will create your medical immigration file on e-medical. During this phase, your passport will be needed and we will take a headshot photo
- You will then be asked to answer 15 questions about your personal medical history
- We will then proceed with the actual medical examination. If you are accompanied by a family member or friend, this person may attend the examination. The exam is done in a shirt or T-shirt, women keep their bra on.
Here are the details:
- weight and height measurement;
- spinal column examination;
- abdominal palpation;
- palpation of lymph nodes;
- cardiac and pulmonary auscultation,
- palpation of the thyroid,
- examination of the mouth,
- blood pressure measurement,
- eyesight screening
- for women, no breast examination will be performed unless you explicitly request it for a specific medical reason
- No examination of the private parts will be carried out.
- You will then be asked to perform two additional tests:
- a biological test in a laboratory near my office, which includes a blood test and a urine test:
- HIV serology
- Syphilis serology
- Plasma creatinine determination (we will be looking for renal pathologies)
- Urine test strip with search for proteinuria, hematuria and glycosuria (we will be looking for renal pathologies or diabetes)
- NB: women are advised to try and come outside of their menstrual periods (see FAQ)
- A chest X-ray, carried out by a radiologist close to my medical office
- We may have to add some biological tests in some cases, depending on your medical history
- The procedure for children is less complex and depends on their age (see FAQ)
- The results of the exams will be sent directly to me in the next few days and, if everything is normal, I will validate your application in less than a week. I will send you confirmation of validation by e-mail. Should a result be abnormal, I will inform you before validating your file, to check with you that you agree to me passing this information on to the Canadian medical authorities.
